Paul Val the Final Night @C-Boy's

Home safe and sound... That was one of the best displays of sheer musical skill I've ever seen in my entire life. When he is actually down on the floor still playing his guitar it actually fits the lyrics. They were just on fire, probably because it was their last night there after several months of residency on every Monday. I only caught 3 of their last shows, including tonight's because I just happened to notice he was performing at The Continental Club about 3 weeks ago, someplace I don't normally go, but I've been a time or two long ago. The parking was too much for me and I bought gumbo at Pappadeaux and went home.

But then I saw he was performing every Monday night at 10 pm just a few blocks further down the same road, South Congress in Downtown Austin at a related venue called C-Boy's. So I missed Sat. but went to C-Boy's on that Monday, for the first time. Then I went back the next Monday, and then again tonight, the last Monday of their residency. They'll play there July 11th, a Friday, and then The Continental Club July 12th, a Saturday, then they are going into the studio and record and also prepare for their European tour in Sept. and Oct.

So I just barely caught him but I'm so glad I did. I filmed him about 5 years ago at a venue called "The Cotton Club" when I was there filming Andy. Other than that, I'd never seen him live but I always recognized he was going to become famous in Austin music. He is. There is no one I've seen like him, probably ever.

So, I now have 3 nights of video footage of him, his band, and also at a second venue a week ago. I have his permission to "do whatever I want" with the footage, he knows I create my television episodes from it and he's happy with that. I can't wait to get it all uploaded and start going through it. That was fabulous. xo
