Read what the guy who took these recent photos of Paul Val says about him. 100%. Now, scroll my page, here, and read what I've recently written about Paul. Same thing. I recognized his spirit. I recognized his rare, masterful, SPIRIT. Go read. I wrote these stories after watching his last 3 performances, with his band, at C-Boy's. I have countless videos I took, to preserve this for the future, for posterity, look in my Photo Albums, scroll my page.
He's not just ALREADY Austin's next Stevie Ray Vaughan, he's more. His independent Spirit, his Sovereignty, his Mastery of his guitar, his music, his ability to express deep ideas and thoughts from his soul, from the pages of his life, all these sing his song, show what I see. I hear, I see, the King.
My stories are on my page. My stories are on my website, just scroll down. These are: "Downtown Austin & Congress Bridge at Night; Yes, to a King, Music & Orbs," "The King, the Ultimate Rebel," "Paul Val, Rattlesnakes, Edges, & Boundaries," "Paul Val the Final Night @C-Boy's," "Angel 5.0 Art, Beauty, Rock & Soul," and "Angel 5.0 A Peek Behind the Curtain."
I talk about how his spirit, his energy, pushes him not just to stand at the edge of the stage, but how his very boots are half-way OFF the edge of the stage. I write, "It’s his SPIRIT. I haven’t seen an artist of this rare nature since I found Gabe in 2001 (my very best compliment; I call Gabe, my Death Metal icon, "Elohim," meaning a god. Go read my story, "Seraphim.") It’s called Mastery. It’s called Sovereign. I love this guy. Wow. He’s going down in Austin, Texas “Live Music Capital of the World,” history. Meet your next Stevie Ray Vaughan on steroids. THIS. This is what a King looks like."
Then, after watching him even more I write, "How I KNOW Paul will be Austin's next Stevie Ray Vaughan, is because he already is." But he's more than that. I've now watched many of his videos, listened to him saying he doesn't consider himself to be the best, listened to him holding up other quality musicians, listened to his lyrics saying, "I'm alright, but what I really want to know is where I'll sleep tonight." I've heard him express his hunger, read his praise for his Grandmother for encouraging him to follow his dreams, to not give up because he knows (and she knows) he'd never be satisfied, never be happy, doing anything other than what he's been doing, his music, for the past 9 or 10 years. I've read his praise for an Austin music store that helped him when his equipment was stolen. I've heard his appreciation for the Austin legends who brought him into our best venues, his humility.
I've written I recognized him when I first noticed him around Austin, how I knew to film him when he just happened to be at The Cotton Club, when I was there filming my friend, and inspiration for my stories and TV series "Texas Tales from a Lone Star," Andy, maybe 5 years ago. But I'd already noticed him, knew who he was when I was sitting at my table in the Cotton Club and saw him walk in, I whispered it to my girlfriends at the table, took out my camera, those photos or videos are somewhere, I don't know, but I know I have them. I know I took them. I know why.
So read what the guy who took these photos has to say about Paul. And Paul, if you ever read this, it's your spirit that sets you apart, Paul. It's your Spirit. It's the spirit of the King.

Quote, Drew Mendez: "The heir to the Texas blues but he isn’t playing anyone else’s crown. Paul Val doesn’t play the blues, he bleeds it! We’ll see you July 12, 2025 at the Continental Club Austin at 10pm. Paul Val Live! For the ones who want to feel it, not just hear it. Raw, unfiltered and unforgettable. Join us for a legendary night, his guitar work is a time machine with a soul of its own."
Amen. Let me just add: Paul will also be at C-Boy's on South Congress the night before, Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10 pm.
