Throwback; Angel at Lonestar Bar Jonestown; Early years

Throwback... this is me with a borrowed guitar. I think my friend Allen Kentfield was there that day. He's legendary, not a word I throw around lightly, on the pedal steel guitar. So, I'm probably playing his guitar. He played with my main musician I document, Andy Armendariz, many times. He also performed at the Island on Lake Travis with me and my ex musician bass player boyfriend, Bax (who deserves to be called legendary, look him up.) We'd cross paths at a lot of venues, especially in my early years in Austin, beginning in 2010 when Bax and I were going out a lot and networking with local professional musicians. Allen played with my friend Glen Collins a lot too, and I'd go to Glen's open mics, and Glen would play with Andy, and I'd jump up on stage - lots of criss-crossing. Andy never says Glen's name without adding the word, "legendary," so that should tell you, right there.
This bar is the very first one I took Gabe to, scratch that we stopped in to see Glen and Allen at The Post on the way there, it's in one of my "Texas Tales from a Lone Star" Television episodes I filmed. I have Glen weaving my name, Angel Isaacs, into one of his songs as I film and Gabe is sitting there with the Jack and Coke I bought him. I take care of my beloveds. Gabe's top. So are everyone I ever mention, film, or write about, my babies, mine, I'm very possessive over the people I love. Anyway, Angel get back on track...
Anyway this is a throwback picture of me borrowing Allen's guitar at the Lone Star Bar in Jonestown, Texas sometime between 2010 and now, probably 2014 or so, just guessing. I was also taking sneak peeks at Allen's setlist because I already knew I'd be bringing Gabe into my network and I think about things like preparation. That's not the only setlist I peeked at, I peeked at Chris Max's and Jim Gough Jr.'s and anyone I thought Gabe would fit in with.
I have the video of the first time Gabe performed here on my website under "Texas Tales." He blows everyone away, they are pointing and gasping. That's half Gabe and half me being prepared. Seriously, if I'm going to write at all I need to tell it like it is. I had picked this particular bar because I knew it was a local professional musician's hub, lots and lots of the really good musicians go in and out of here. So, that's why I'm there, I'm setting it up for when I bring Gabe. When I did he met the best of the best and it kick started our ability to network and film. See.
My own songs are soft and acoustic and are guaranteed to have some connection to God in them whether I wrote it or picked it. So, I'm probably singing a mixture of my originals in this throwback picture or something Andy taught me, in this environment. Well, those don't really have God in them, but I know a bunch of his setlist because he put me in his first band, way back way back, I have the photos. Anyway, maybe I'm singing "Comal County Blue" or "Wagon Wheel" or "Hallelujah," or "Pancho & Lefty." If I'm singing my own then I'm singing "Chariot of Dust," "Linen & Lace," "Uncle Bill," or probably "Rained and Rained and Rained." There are a lot of videos and stories on my website. Oh, the date was on the picture, Sept. 28, 2014. (And I found Allen's entire Set List in my folder, lol.) Enjoy! xo
